Dislocation Interplay embodies the encounter and discovery of a new terrain. Our journey is an on-site field research in the area of Hollabrunn, related to its history, topography and culture as well as to our own daily routines. Reading this landscape as a playground of potentials and options, where the physical territory of Hollabrunn meets the spirits of its history and unlinear local memory, our access is much more mind-mapping than documenting, more patch-working than preclusive.
Referring to the concept of the fold (le pli) by Gilles Deleuze, we are investigating in the possibilities of bridging the gap between the seer and the seen. We are interested in the liminal stage of a place; we aim to capture what is hidden beneath the layer of visibility and in the cartography of alternatives and non-linear connections. We are interested in the moments of perception, when we know more than we can tell, when the local circumstances extend into bigger concepts and overlap with parallel places and simultaneous realities.
In our project, dislocation means recalibration. The act of making as a way of thinking. In their origin, our artistic manoeuvres are inherently performative.
In daily routines, we walk with our dog through the surroundings, poly-sensoric; capturing, perceiving, observing; performing a sort of psycho-geographic soil sampling. We explore and collect, we witness and listen, we interfere and modificate and we document our operations. We see what is there - and what is not.
It´s an experimental artistic measuring of the landscape that results in various forms of knowledge. Our visual notes, field recordings, found objects and found footage become subjects of our archive, manifesting in collages, drawings, sculptural objects, sound recordings, ephemeral interventions - and as a compound of abstractions, analogies and metaphors.
