Zilan İmşik
Zilan İmşik (b.1996) is an artist interested in telling stories that revolve around space and memory, focusing on historical events that are often ignored or erased.
She creates counter-narratives often through spaces that have been marked by the lingering imprints of violence. She is interested in exploring the memories of spaces and objects, and telling stories through them. Her work heavily
relies on research, testimonies and oral histories help her to shape her work. She combines installation art, photography, video, and sound in her work, but is always interested in working with other mediums.
Zilan has an MA in Documentary Photography from London College of Communication, and a BA in Film. She is a recipient of the Prince Claus Seeds Awards, and her work is part of the UAL Art Collection. Her works have been exhibited internationally in art galleries and photography festivals such as Tbilisi Photo Festival, Angkor Photo Festival and Voies Off. She worked as a visiting lecturer at the photography department of University of Roehampton. She is based in Istanbul and London.
